The success of the Halo series is putting enormous pressure on developer Bungie to deliver an even more impressive experience with the upcoming Destiny, and the team says that it’s well equipped to deal with it.

Pete Persons, the chief operations officer at the developer, tells MCV that “We put a lot of pressure on ourselves to set the bar higher. We owe it to ourselves, and our fans to stretch our studio to its absolute limit. We constantly challenge ourselves to evolve with technology and entertainment, to do something better than we did before.”

Bungie has always been known for the way it managed to extract performance from the platform it was working on, and for the attention it paid to core game mechanics.

He adds, “That takes ambition, but it also takes passion, an incredibly talented and inspiring team, and tons of hard work With Destiny, we’re not only building a great action game, but to change the way our fans play Bungie games together.”

Parsons once more emphasizes the complexity of the Destiny universe, which will include adventure and action.

The new game is designed to be a shared experience that encourages gamers to interact with others in their quests, although multiplayer will not be mandatory.

Bungie takes place in a future where humanity is reduced to one city on Earth, protected by a mysterious alien.

Gamers will be able to customize a character and then explore an entire universe filled with new races, enemies to fight, and secrets to uncover.

Destiny has been confirmed as arriving on the PlayStation 4, complete with exclusive content, and it will also presumably be revealed for the Xbox 720 from Microsoft.

The game will also be playable on the PC and on current-generation devices.

Launch date is set for fall this year.
