It's unlikely an update will be offered this year

The development team at Bungie is ready to acknowledge that one of the core game mechanics of Destiny is at the moment not working as it should, with precision damage currently not tracked in the post-match Carnage Report screen.

The team says on the official help section of its site that it is currently investigating what is causing the problem and that it is apologizing for any sort of problems that it has caused to the community.

The announcement from the company states that "Precision damage will still register, but is currently not being tracked in the Post Game Carnage Report (PGCR) screen. Additionally, players may not receive precision kill credit on the 'It's All In the Head' bounty."

It's very probable that Bungie will not launch a hotfix for Destiny just so that it can deal with the issue, especially after pretty much saying that the company was getting ready to take a small break over the holiday period.

Presumably, a solution will be included in the next major update for the social shooter, which will probably be introduced in January of 2015.

Until then, gamers are able to enjoy both the core game mechanics and those introduced by The Dark Below expansion, which was dilevered on all platforms on December 9 and allows gamers to get new items for their characters and to take part in the new and difficult Crota's End late game raid.

Destiny needs to keep gamers engaged in the long term

The new game from Bungie and Activision is one of the most ambitious launches of the fall and the team behind it has already managed to persuade more than 12 million players to try it out and create more than 23 million Guardians.

But all these gamers need to be kept engaged with the title and that can only be done by delivering constant updates in order to make sure that all problems with the shooter are eliminated and that core mechanics are tweaked.

At the same time, Bungie also needs to continue to create expansions, with a new one called House of Wolves already planned to arrive in the summer of 2015.

The community has asked for more content to be added in order for the package to offer more value for money.

Statements from the developers have also suggested that a full sequel is also in development at the moment.
