Gamers can basically own the title on both platforms

The development team at Bungie and publisher Activision are announcing that they are ready to deliver a free upgrade for their coming Destiny from the PS3 to the PlayStation 4 and from the 360 to the Xbox One, for a limited period of time and in digital form.

The offer is available until 2015 and basically makes it easy for all those who want to get the title on an older platform to then simply upgrade to current-gen Microsoft and Sony devices, as long as they pick up the digitally distributed version of the shooter.

Destiny players can upgrade the Ghost Digital Edition of the title and the Season Pass for it as well, which means that the two versions of the experience are available at the same time for those who choose to do so.

The move might be a reaction to the recent information that gamers are seeing their Limited Edition and their Ghosts Edition canceled even though they pre-ordered the game a few months ago, because the stores do not have enough package for all who want them.

By delivering a digital upgrade from the last generation of consoles to the current one for free, the company offers a clear alternative, even though it is only for copies that are sold digitally.

The official site has a clear Frequently Asked Questions section that explains exactly how gamers can perform the upgrade and how the new content can be accessed.

It also states, "Whether you participate in this program or not, your Guardians, progress, stats, and gear are shared within a console family (PlayStation 3<->PlayStation4 or Xbox 360<->Xbox One) and will be waiting for you when you transition to next-gen."

The new first-person shooter from Bungie will be launched on all platforms on September 9, and the development team says that as soon as the date switches over, gamers who own a copy of the title can start playing.

The studio is also currently working on the first piece of downloadable content for it, called The Dark Below, which is supposed to arrive before the end of the year.

A PC version of the game is also rumored to be in development, but all companies involved have said that there are no plans for such a release.

The new Bungie title is designed to be played with groups and will offer elements taken from genres like role playing and massive multiplayer online.
