Bungie has shared some more details about its upcoming Destiny multiplayer-only first-person shooter, confirming that, while the title has quite a few surprises for those willing to explore its huge online world, it will not allow them to recruit AI-controlled companions.

Destiny is set to debut later in the year and, so far, developer Bungie has confirmed quite a few things about the new title and how it will give players the chance to explore all sorts of worlds and planets that are filled with different online adventures, both cooperatively and competitively.

After hearing a few things about the game entering the testing phase ahead of its beta release later in the year, Bungie has discussed some of the things players will be able to do in the upcoming first-person shooter.

More specifically, during the many multiplayer encounters and even during the different exploration sequences that can be achieved using vehicles like the Wraith, players will be able to uncover different secrets, surprises, or treasures hidden from the regular path. Bear in mind, however, that with great rewards comes great danger, as Bungie hints at possible ambushes.

"That is why you’re made to suffer the wait," the studio said on its blog. "You’ll have time to explore, and room to stretch your legs. Just when you’re about to make a bold new discovery, vicious aliens will attack from above, below, or from every side. Be curious, but be vigilant."

What's more, the studio also talked about AI-controlled non-playable characters. They will certainly populate the game's world and its different settlements, but players will not be able to bring them into battle.

According to the studio, Destiny will have many actual players so there isn't a reason to try and recruit an NPC companion that will help you in battle.

"Why would you want to recruit a Non-Player Character, when the world of Destiny is populated with Guardians? Every hero from the last safe city on Earth will be driven by a living, thinking player with a racing pulse and an itchy trigger finger. You’ll come across characters bound to the software, of course, but your allies will be the other players who join you on your adventures."

As such, you are expected to make quite a few friends in Destiny while going into battle alongside or opposed them.

Destiny is set to launch worldwide on September 9 for PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One.
