Bungie might use them to promote the game ahead of launch

The development team at Bungie has been giving out a number of trading cards associated with its upcoming Destiny at a small number of events, and it seems that they are designed to be redeemed in the shooter to give players access to unique rewards.

Each of them focuses on one in-game location or on a player class, and they contain unique codes that can be entered on the official site multiple times by more than one player.

The list compiled by a fan site includes:

Warlock: YKA-RJG-MH9 Hunter: 3DA-P4X-F6A Titan: MVD-4N3-NKH Rixis: TCN-HCD-TGY Old-Russia: HDX-ALM-V4K Hive: 473-MXR-3X9 Moon: JMR-LFN-4A3 Gjallorhorn: HC3-H44-DKC Duke MK.44: 69P-KRM-JJA The Tower: 69P-VCH-337 The Hive: Ogre 69R-CKD-X7L Valley of the kings, Mars: 69R-DDD-FCP The Fallen: 69R-F99-AXG Red Death: 69R-VL7-J6A The Cabal: 69X-DJN-74V The Devastated Coast, Venus: 6A7-7NP-3X7 Vex Minotaur: 6A9-DTG-YGN

It’s unclear whether more cards are in the wild or if Bungie plans to deliver any more at the upcoming Game Developers Conference or even at E3 2014.

It will be interesting to see whether the developers plan to create a parallel card-based trading mini-game that’s associated with Destiny or if they are simply using the locations and classes to give players a little more incentive to pick up the title on launch.

Destiny is a complex experience that aims to deliver a deep universe, which combines elements from the fantasy and the science fiction space, with shooter-focused mechanics that also borrow from the role-playing game and the MMO genres.

Players will be able to tackle the challenge of protecting the last human city on Earth on their own or they can group with friends to battle complex bosses and deal with human opponents.

The title is designed to encourage complex customization for all characters, and the class design is set to emphasize teamwork and solid use of some pretty impressive special powers.

Bungie previously worked on the Halo series, and many see Destiny as its attempt to create a game experience that outshines the Master Chief powered franchise, which is now in the hands of Microsoft.

Destiny will first get a full beta during the summer, with Bungie saying that it will use it to show players a vertical slice of gameplay and to test the infrastructure that will be crucial to the success of the title.

Full launch is currently planned to take place on September 9 all over the world on the PlayStation 4 from Sony, the Xbox One from Microsoft and current gen consoles.
