Known mostly for serious, gritty or down-right scary roles, Denzel Washington is at the moment being considered as the actor that is going to play the Green Lantern character in the “Man of Steel” sequel. If this is true, Denzel will be joining an ever-expanding cast of characters that is set to rival the success of “The Avengers.”

The story is yet unconfirmed, but Nuke the Fridge claims in an exclusive piece that there is some truth behind it. Up until now, the name of Denzel Washington has been linked with the project, but it was reported that the producers were trying to land him the role of Lex Luthor.

Now it seems that a more suitable candidate for the bald villain master mind is Joaquin Phoenix while the “Training Day” actor is more fit to play John Stewart, the pilot who turns into the ring-carrying superhero.

It's very interesting to see if this rumor turns out to be true, because Washington was once quoted as saying that he would never do a role that required him to wear tights. True to that statement, Washington has managed to stay well away from the comic book heroes’ invasion that has taken over Hollywood in later years. At least, so far.

The project that sees Batman pitted against Superman hasn't received an official name yet, but many people think it will be called “The Justice League” because of the characters that have been revealed so far. Under the direction of Zack Snyder, Ben Affleck will star as Batman, Henry Cavill as Superman, and Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman.

The Justice League might be DC Comics' answer to Marvel's popular Avengers franchise that broke box office ratings and is already billed to be continued in 2015 with “The Avengers: The Age of Ultron.”
