“Getting a knife, a big one that is sharp. Going to cut my arm down the whole arm so it doesn’t waste time.” an unknown woman wrote on Demi Moore’s Twitter page. The actress saw the message, re-posted it, fans took it up and spread the word and, eventually, word got out to the police, which found the alleged suicidal woman and saved her life, MSNBC reports.

This would be, in short, the story of how actress Demi Moore helped save a life by choosing to not disregard the message as a practical joke in really bad taste, it has been said. The moment fans of the star saw the re-tweeted message with “I hope ur not joking” attached to it, they too chose to not take the matter lightly, and started calling the police about the woman who was about to take her own life, according to her own words.

“the twitterverse is on the case just called silicon valley pd to report this woman many others had called. fingers crossed.” one user wrote, according to MSNBC. “A rep for the San Jose Police Department told Access Hollywood said they ‘received several phone calls’ about the woman starting at 3 a.m. on Friday. The calls were coming in from ‘all over the place, from far away places.’ Police told Access they ‘did locate the subject’ and she had not hurt herself. The unidentified woman was ‘taken for evaluation’.” the same media outlet further explains.

Demi herself, while still shocked about the woman’s announcement on the micro-blogging site, said that it felt too weird to just “let it go.” Also, she did not know that her re-tweeting it would lead to such a strong reaction on behalf of her fans and that they would rally so quick, but she was more than happy that they did, since this probably saved a life, she said in a later post. Moore did not know the woman in question, either.

“Thanks everyone for reaching out to the San Jose PD. I am told they are aware and no need to call anymore. I do not know this woman. I am inspired by the enormous response of humanity here and thank you… It is my understanding that the situation was not a joke and that through the collective efforts here action was taken to provide help!” Demi Moore wrote in a later post, after word came back to her, across the Twitter universe, that the police had found the woman and she was unharmed.
