14 DAY TRIAL // Demi Lovato has been keeping one huge secret from her fans and the media: she actually has a secret half-sister whom she didn’t meet until she turned 20.
The singer, actress and television personality made the startling revelation during a recent radio interview cited by People Magazine.
When asked whether she had a secret she’d like to share with the rest of the world, Demi said in a very casual manner, “I have an older sister I've never known my whole life, who's in her 30s.”
“She's my half-sister, but I talked to her for the very first time in my life around when I turned 20,” she added.
Demi refused to say which parent her half-sister came from and to offer more details about her, but she did explain how come it took her so long to connect with her.
“I asked her, I said, ‘Why haven't you ever contacted me?’ She said, ‘Well, I never wanted you to think I wanted anything from you. So I've just been kind of waiting to see if you wanted a relationship’,” Demi said.
“I thought that was so incredible. So, I actually have three sisters,” she added.
While the interviewer tried to get Demi to go into more personal stuff by asking her questions about her love life, she drew the line: there are some things she will never talk about.
In recent years, Demi has become a role model for young girls even though back in her Disney days she was a wild child.
After battling drug addiction, eating disorders, self-harm issues and low self-esteem, Demi has emerged as a strong, determined and very relatable young woman.
Since rehab, she’s been constantly talking about her problems in the hope that it might help other girls in the same situation realize just how badly they need help – and actually reach out to family to get it.
