Demi Lovato has gone on Good Morning America to discuss the recent death of her father following his battle with cancer.

The singer-songwriter discloses the fact that both she and her father have battled mental illness. In the case of her father, it made him unable to function in society, she confesses.

The 20-year-old had not been in touch with her father for a while, but he was there for her when she was growing up.

The star also shares that she has started a scholarship fund to help teens suffering from mental issues cope and strive.

She will be paying for their treatment under the Lovato Treatment Scholarship Program through Cast Recovery.

“I’m helping one person at a time, I’m going to pay for their treatment,” she describes.
