With Acer, Lenovo and MSI having already added AMD's new chips as options on several of their products, Dell has decided to adopt the new CPUs, not just on the desktop front, but also on the mobile segment. To this end, the PC supplier has taken its slim and light Inspiron M301z and M501R notebooks and given their purchasers access to some of the latest chips in the so-called Danube platform.

The 13.3-inch widescreen M301z is very slim and lightweight, measuring less than one inch in thickness and weighing less than four pounds. However, this compact construction still manages to somehow integrate a 1.5GHz AMD Turion II Neo K625 CPU, up to 8GB of RAM, Radeon HD 4200 integrated graphics and an HDD with 640GB of storage space.

The second notebook to be updated is known as the Inspiron M501R and is, essentially, the M301z with a larger, High-Definition screen (15.6 inches) and the option of a stronger central processing unit, an AMD Phenom II X4 quad-core to be exact. This model can also be equipped with a discrete ATI Mobility Radeon HD graphics solution. Storage and memory capabilities are the same as those of its sibling.

“The Inspiron M301z sports a sleek, svelte, curvy design that makes it easy to bring entertainment and other projects on the go,” the press release states. “The M301z can be easily connected to a large screen TV or computer monitor for an even better media playback experience.”

“Dell designed the mid-size Inspiron M501R to be stylish wherever it goes with sleek new contours, curved edges, chrome accents and brushed color finishes for the LCD back. It’s easy to use, too, with great software, smudge-resistant palmrest, a comfortable full-size keyboard with adjacent 10-key numeric keypad and stiff chassis for exceptional reliability and durability,” the announcement notes.

The Dell Inspiron M301z does not have a price yet, but it will start shipping in Europe, Japan and China in the next few weeks. As for the M501R, this notebook will only start selling, in the US and Europe, this summer.
