Dell launched a new range of PCs and notebooks, the Vostro line, and these computers seem to be just the thing for those who want simple, yet powerful business machines. The Vostro line was designed for small businesses with only a few employees, simple or no networks and limited or no in-house IT support. The price ranges from US $319 for the mini version or US $349 for the slim tower.

All the desktop systems of the Vostro line are based on the Intel G33 chipset. The basic model is equipped with a Celeron processor and 512MB of RAM, an 80GB hard drive as well as a 16X DVD-ROM. Users may configure their systems and the producer offers a wide range of options including an E6700 processor and many graphics options.

The Vostro range includes four notebook models, the basic 1000, the mid-level 1400 and 1500, and the high-end 1700. The basic 1000 model has an AMD Sempron processor and is based on the ATI Radeon Xpress 1150 chipset. RAM capacity is 512MB while the hard drive has a capacity of 60GB. Higher-end models are equipped with AMD Turion X2 processors.

RAM memory can be expanded, up to 2GB for the 1000 model and up to 4GB for the others. Custom storage solutions are available ranging from 120GB to 320GB hard drives with SATA 2 interface.

With a native resolution of 1280x800 and a screen size of 15.4 inch, the 1000 model's price starts at $449. The mid-level notebook models, the 1400 and 1500, also start at 1280x800 resolution, but they can be upgraded, as higher resolutions are available. The high-end model, the 1700, has a native resolution of 1440x900, but it too can be upgraded. For models from 1400 and upward, solutions with discrete graphics are also available and Dell chose the NVIDIA GeForce 8000 family for this job.

The 1400 and 1500 notebook models have a starting price of $549, while the 1700 starts at $799.
