After announcing the rather interesting new Inspiron R series of notebooks, Dell's decided to do a little something about its Vostro 3000 line as well, and thus revealed a couple of upgrades to these portable platforms, mostly related to the area of CPUs.

As expected, all of the new Dell Vostro systems (available in 13, 14, 15 and 17-inch sizes) will receive the new Sandy Bridge processors from Intel (2'nd Generation Core CPUs, to be perfectly official), as well some other upgrades on the side, such as, for example, an USB 3.0 port, for faster data transfers.

Other interesting hardware features worth mentioning (although Dell is not particularly generous as far as the technical details are concerned) include switchable graphics, as well as DDR3 memory, not to mention an enhanced battery life, that reaches up to an impressive 12 hours on certain specific models.

Additionally, the new systems will also offer users a chiclet keyboard, a durable aluminum casing and a choice of three colors, namely Aberdeen Silver, Lucerne Red and Brisbane Bronze, while also packing a Bluetooth 3.0 module for fast and easy pairing with mobile devices.

Furthermore, the new Dell Vostro 3000 series laptops also spott voice enhancing technology SRS Premium Voice Pro software, plus a full HD webcam for online video communications.

Other interesting features worth mentioning include the fact that it comes pre-loaded with Skype, allows users to launch just about any VoIP or videoconferencing application via a button on the dashboard, and features a standard built-in finger-print reader.

Despite getting an update, the new Vostro 3000 series, that will become available in the U.S. starting on March 22, are not exactly significantly more expensive than their predecessors, pricing for the 13-inch Vostro 3350, 14-inch Vostro 3450, 15-inch Vostro 3550 and 17-inch Vostro 3750 starting at 599, 499, 499 and 549 US dollars, respectively.
