A solution has not been found yet, but Dell is offering replacements

The Dell Venue 11 Pro is a tablet that has received a lot of positive feedback from users, coming with a powerful set of specifications. But like all products, the device is not devoid of problems.

As a matter of fact, we have noticed a huge topic started back in December 2013 on the official Dell community forums, where users of the Dell Venue 11 Pro complain about the tablet freezing unexpectedly.

Here’s what Crazydan, who started the topic, has to say:

“My problem is that the entire tablet freezes up periodically when not directly connected to the power source. Sometimes the screen just goes black but I can feel the haptic feedback from the Windows button. Other times the upper 80% of the screen turns into what looks like a star field.”

Other owners are experiencing similar issues and the problem seems to affect both the vPro and i5 Core version as well.

“I also have a problem where it freezes up periodically. The screen doesn't change it just locks up and doesn't respond until I push the power the button off and back on.”

“Interestingly, in one example, I tapped a link but nothing happens, I can't swipe or move the arrow with the touch pad (I am using the soft keyboard cover) but when I re-start, the new web page is open. Also, while it frozen the windows button gives me feedback. To me it seems like it is the screen that freezes, not the whole system,” says tedbrock.

Dell representatives have been made aware of the issues and have requested users to provide them with screenshots so they can make a better idea of the problem, but to no avail.

Other owners have contacted technical support which resulted into a shipped Windows 8.1 thumb drive.

ROBstarwind shares his experience by saying he “formatted and did a fresh install of 8.1 without all the extra software in it. I had to install all the drivers from Dell's website.”

“Despite this, it still freezes periodically. I have the laptop keyboard dock with the built-in battery along with the standalone dock. It happens regardless of what dock i used and also when it's not using any dock at all. I have the latest BIOS A05 installed also.”

Anyway, as we advance into the 95-page topic that reaches the current day, we can see some users have been offered replacement tablets by Dell. So if you’re having the same freezing issues or notice other abnormal activity going on on your screen, it might be a good idea to contact support to see if you can get your Dell Venue 11 replaced.
