As always, Dell is working all the angles, its latest move being, apparently, the addition of a few new models to the UltraSharp series of widescreen monitors with 21.5 to 24 inches in diagonal.

The market for displays, like all other segments of the IT industry, always could do with some new announcements, since the freshness factor needs to be preserved.

This is because technologies are launched or improved fairly often, not to mention that prices drop for backlighting and the like.

As such, the fact that Dell has three new UltraSharp displays out and about, or soon will, although when, exactly, is still a mystery.

They go by the names of U2212HM, U2312HM and U2412HM and, as their names imply, have screen sizes of 21.5 inches, 23 inches and 24 inches, respectively.

The H in the name stands for the 16:9 aspect ratio, while the M signifies the e-IPS panel classification, as a certain report explains.

Indeed, all three newcomers have IPS display panels, while their W-LIED (White-LED) technology provides power-efficient and, thus, cost effective backlighting.

The W-LED also determines the color gamut, in this case an 80% coverage of the NTSC color space (it is a standard one).

What's more, Full HD video quality should be supported, meaning that the monitors all have a native resolution of 1,920 x 1,080 pixels.

The exact brightness level is something that has yet to be revealed, as is the response time, and there is no telling when this information will be discovered.

The final detail known, for now, is in regards to connectivity: DVI and DisplayPort connectors are present.

Availability should ramp up by the end of the year (2011), maybe as early as the third quarter. It remains to be seen if any reports with the rest of the feature set emerge by then.
