Time to say good-bye

Yep, you've heard it right. After years and years of unsatisfied customers whispering in Dell's ears that they simply have too many consumer-end PC lines, the giant has decided that they will end the Dimension line as soon as possible. According to Dell, the Dimension desktops are already being phased out and their place will be taken by new Inspirons and lower end XPS series.

After Dell launched yesterday two new models based on the Inspiron line and design they made the official announcement regarding the Dimension line. If you're to look at Dell's business from the outside this move comes as a natural consequence of the poor sales registered by the Dimension line. But in the end that's not the biggest issue here. Actually the problem is related more to the fact that lately Dimensions and Inspirons were too close to each other. And no one likes to compete against itself.

In the end this is why Dell phases out the Dimensions. New and improved Inspirons are arriving and in order to sell them as cheap as it can, Dell doesn't need additional competition. Not one from its own product line. The latest Inspirons are smaller and more stylized but they also pack a broader range of hardware including all AMDs and INTEL's mainstream and value CPUs.

And what's even more shocking about the new Inspirons is the fact that Dell managed to produce a 40% smaller case for what is in fact the same product. But I haven't even got to the best part yet. Because in order to sell more you really need to be dirty cheap. As a result, Dell will also offer Ubuntu-based Inspirons in order to cut down the costs for the OS. Now don't get your hopes up, Dell still loves Microsoft. But they're simply too expensive for value-Inspirons.
