Round Rock, Texas-based Dell, one of the world's leading vendors of portable computer systems, has recently updated its Inspiron lineup with the addition of a new 17.3-inch model. Simply dubbed Inspiron 17, the new laptop comes with a relatively small price tag and features a simple external design, catering to the needs of mainstream consumers. The system is built on an Intel platform and will provide users with three basic configurations that will enable them to choose the one that best fits their needs.

The Inspiron 17 has been equipped with a 17.3-inch display, featuring a resolution of 1600x900 pixels and a 16:9 aspect ratio. The display also features LED backlighting, allowing users to take advantage of a better visualization experience. Aside from that, they will be able to choose from a number of Intel processors, up to a 2.4GHz Core 2 Duo, with the basic configurations starting at prices of US$499, US$649 and US$799.

The base price for the Inspiron 17 is US$499, which will provide users with a 2GHz Pentium dual-core processor, 2GB of RAM, a 160GB hard drive, an Intel X4500HD graphics chip, high-definition audio, a Dell wireless 802.11g half mini-card and a 4-cell lithium battery. To boost performance and add some more features to the system, users can opt for up to 4GB of memory, a larger-capacity 500GB hard drive, Blu-ray, a 6-cell battery pack and a dedicated 256MB Mobility Radeon HD 4330 graphics card.

Dell also promises a 9-cell battery pack for orders placed in early August, while later on in September the Inspiron 17 will be available with a 512MB graphics card and a 1080p display. All systems are equipped with a Windows Vista operating system and come backed by a minimum 1-year warranty.
