Round Rock, Texas-based Dell, one of the world's leading vendors of consumer and business computer systems, has announced today the availability of the new Dell EqualLogic PS6000 series of storage arrays, designed for business users requiring increased performance, advanced virtualization capabilities and an higher number of features, compared to previous-generation products. With the introduction of the new series of SAN devices, Dell has rolled out five new EqualLogic storage arrays, including the PS6000E, PS6500E, PS6000X, PS6000XV and PS6000S.

“With the new EqualLogic PS6000 series, Dell has delivered platform and information management advancements that allow our customers to meet growing storage needs in a simple and cost-effective way,” said Darren Thomas, vice president and general manager, Enterprise Storage, Dell. “Features such as solid state discs, all-inclusive monitoring tools like SAN Headquarters, and seamless integration with prior SAN generations, are differentiating Dell from the other storage vendors and delivering on our promise of simple, capable, affordable storage.”

According to Dell, the new EqualLogic PS6000 series offers a performance increase of up to 91 percent, in sequential write workloads and up to 29 percent in sequential read workloads, when compared to the previous generation of SAN devices, the PS5000 series. In addition to that, the PS6000 series is the first of Dell's EqualLogic products to provide its users with a Solid State Drive array, thus enabling more enterprise users to boost their systems' performance through the advancements brought by the Solid State Drive technology.

In addition to an all-inclusive suite of EqualLogic storage software, the new PS6000 series offers support for over 500TB of storage per PS Series group. Price wise, these new PS6000 arrays start at US$17,000, while the PS6000S, which offers support for Solid State Drives, comes with a starting price tag of US$25,000.

“While storage remains one of the few bright spots across the IT landscape, it is clearly not immune to the realities of the day,” said Steve Duplessie, Founder of ESG. “Cutting operating costs is paramount and gaining efficiency everywhere you can is all that matters. This is exactly why we are seeing accelerated interest in technologies such as iSCSI, and for Dell specifically, as they just keep on adding more and more value to their EqualLogic line while effectively lowering the real cost of owning and operating their systems. This is nothing but good for Dell.”
