Price changes unknown

Hardware makers have been keeping the inflow of USB 3.0 devices and support rather steady, with end-users now having a range of motherboards and PCI Express expansion cards to choose from. The new standard, of course, is far from becoming mainstream, but support for it is no longer as scarce as it was in late 2009. Not only that, but PC makers have made promises that they would soon release laptops with built-in USB 3.0 ports, with the latest entry being a Dell's Precision M6500 notebook.

According to Notebook Italia, the Dell precision M6500 model will be seeing some configuration changes in the not too distant future. The company will be offering the option of using Intel Core i5 and Core i7 dual-core processors, in addition to quad-core i7 chips. While the 17-inch RGB LED display, and Quadro FX graphics and the Qualcomm Gobi 2 3G modem will likely see no changes, Dell will still throw in some newer options. These include a 3.2-megapixel webcam and a 64GB SSD mini card. The latter will enable the laptop to pack up to three hard drives, so that consumers need not worry about storage constraints ever again.

There is one change which will likely be a great factor in the actual marketing performance of the high-end machine. Dell will be including support for the USB 3.0 standard, which has the famous speed up to 5Gbps. While this will likely raise the price of the final configuration, it will hardly be a factor, considering that the product already has a wallet-breaking tag of $2749.

Unfortunately, the exact price changes have not been made public as of yet, nor has the exact release date, though there is a time frame. The Dell Precision M6500 dual-core configuration will make its appearance around the end of the ongoing month.
