Dell recently added a post on the company's official blog to announce that it has upgraded the M4600 and M6600 line of mobile workstation to feature 512GB SATA 6Gbps solid state drives and faster Nvidia Quadro graphics.

Users interested in purchasing one of these workstations can now choose to pair them with up to three SSDs, two using the 2.5-inch form factor and an mini-PCIe drive that can add 128GB of storage space.

The two 2.5-inch solid state drives are manufactured by Micron (C400 series) and can be setup in either a RAID 1 or RAID 0 mode, while opting for the third mini-PCIe SSD also enables the use of a special RAID 5 mode.

As far as the price of the upgrade is concerned, Dell is charging $1120 for moving from the standard 250GB hard drive to a 512GB Micron C400 SSD, while the second solid state drive can be had for $1350.

To put things in perspective, the 512GB version of the Crucial M4 retails for roughly $770, but you will have to do the upgrade on your own.

Besides from the new SSDs, Dell's Precision M6600 mobile workstation can now also be configured to feature the new Quadro 5010M professional graphics card from Nvidia. This comes as a $1640 upgrade from the AMD FirePro M8900.

The rest of the specifications were left unchanged, so the two notebooks pack Intel Sandy Bridge processors up to the Core i7-2920XM as well as a maximum of 32GB of system memory.

Users interested in the two Precision mobile workstation models can choose between quite a few different screen options, all with a bare-minimum 72% color gamut, which also includes the Full HD PremierColor IPS RGB screen.

In the connectivity department Dell offers USB 3.0, FireWire, eSATA, HDMI, DisplayPort and Bluetooth 3.0. The starting price for the Precision M4600 and M6600 is set at $1,678 and $2,158 respectively.
