Dell has been seeking to expand in the areas of networking design and development, as well as cloud computing and storage development, and it looks like a research facility dedicated to this might just come into being not too far in the future.

Dell is one company that can safely be said to have taken by surprise at least part of the industry, and this is because of other things than the unveiling of new gaming notebooks or workstations.

What the company did that can truly classify as unusual is begin using mushroom cushioning for some of its servers, expecting to eventually extend the method to most of its products.

Still, the outfit is definitely not just doing this mush, as it also wants to step up its efforts as far as networking, storage and cloud design and development goes.

That said, a new press release reveals that Dell wants to open the a new facility known as the Dell Silicon Valley Research and Development Center.

Most of the operation ins Northern California should be able to consolidate once the center is opened, and this is in addition to hiring over 1,500 team members over the next five years.

“This will be a first-class facility that our current team members will enjoy and find to be an invigorating atmosphere,” said Brad Anderson, senior vice president, Dell Enterprise Solutions Group.

“We also want it to attract new and vital talent to help create industry-leading solutions for Dell’s customers. Silicon Valley is a center of technological innovation and we are looking to tap the great talent pool here.”

The new site will complement the Israel Research and Development Center, announce din Ra'anana, last month.

The campus should include not just the working areas, but also a cafeteria and a fitness center, among other things, being a combination of several areas that Dell bought.

About 700 team members should start working at the site before the year is out, with the rest set to be gradually brought in over the next few years.
