Dell announced that it signed a contract for a period of three years with the United States Department of Veterans Affairs and - according to the above mentioned contract - the computer manufacturing company will deliver almost a quarter of a million computers as well as services related to them.

The governmental Veterans Affairs agency serves almost 75 million people eligible for veterans' services and benefits while representing the interests of more than 25 million veterans. According to a Dell press release concerning this contract, the company will provide the specified number of OptiPlex desktop computers with monitors included. "Additionally, the company will provide the agency with a variety of professional services including deployment, asset management and the option of asset removal at lease-end, helping simplify an otherwise complex information-technology rollout. In all, the nationwide deployment will play a significant role in helping the department serve the needs of current and future veterans."

"This program will help the VA achieve its mission of caring for our nation's veterans," said Troy West, vice president, Dell Federal, in the same press release. "As the exclusive PC provider for the department, we look forward to supporting the agency as it meets the needs of veterans now and into the future." the V.A. Agency provides a variety of services for the United States veterans, as well for their relatives and children. Among those services, there are medical care, educational grants, loans and so on.

In recent years, the agency has been criticized for its computing infrastructure, or better said the lack of, and for several other technology problems and security related ones, so the current contract with one of the most important computer hardware manufacturers in the world is aimed at rehabilitating the agency's technological base. The agency's workers will receive Dell computer systems and Dell will also provide the necessary related services like deployment, asset management and asset removal and under the contract, the computer company will partner with disabled veterans that are owners of small businesses in order to carry out the services.
