Yesterday was quite the day for Dell, as the Round Rock, Texas-based PC vendor had several noteworthy announcements to make. The company's series of Studio portable computer systems is said to expand with three, new, special edition designs, coming to inject style into notebooks that would have otherwise been easily confused with other similar systems. In addition, Dell also introduced a new desktop computer system, part of the company's XPS lineup.

The recently released Dell Studio 15 and 17 laptops are now set to provide users with custom designs from three different artists, including Joseph Amedokpo, Siobhan Gunning and Bruce Mau.

The new custom designs will become available for the two Studio laptops for prices of $649 and $799 respectively. Also, when buying one of these laptops, a $20 contribution will be made to The Global Fund for AIDS programs in Africa. According to Dell, the artwork has been developed to last, so you will be able to benefit from the unique design probably for the entire life span of your Dell laptop.

Without being half as loud about it as it was with the new artwork for the Studio laptops, the PC vendor also introduced a new XPS 430 desktop system, coming as an upgrade to the earlier 420 model. In comparison to this one, however, the just launched model comes with a glossy black tower chassis, and boasts an impressive 6GB of 1066MHz DDR3 RAM.

Furthermore, the XPS 430 comes with some of the more recent Core 2 Quad processors, featuring an L2 cache of 1333MHz. Additional features include a 640GB hard disk drive and ATI Radeon HD 3450 graphics card, for the basic $1,307 configuration. A higher priced configuration comes to provide a 2.5GHz Core 2 Quad processor and a 750GB hard drive, while the system itself can go up to as much as 8GB of RAM, a faster quad-core processor, at 3GHz, a 4850 or 3870 X2 high-end graphics card.

With all these announcements, Dell is actually preparing for the upcoming holiday season, also known as the peak sales season.
