Make sure you have enough computers to hook up to the new display.

Zotac have recently announced the world's first GeForce 8800GT video card to sport the brand-new DisplayPort interconnect. This is quite a surprise, as the only news about HDMI's fierce competitor consisted of mere rumors and nothing to the point.

The video card has been scheduled for mass-availability starting the first quarter of 2008 and everybody keeps asking what it would connect to, since DisplayPort monitors are rare and extremely expensive.

Samsung was the first to announce a monitor to sport a DisplayPort connector and it's now Dell's turn to present their way of implementing the new technology. Their new display is an update to the older 3007WFP, a series that had some limitations in terms of resolution and extra features.

The 3007WFP/WFP-HC shipped only with single dual-link DVI connector, just as the cheaper 2707WFP, 2407WFP and 2405FPW models. Dell has learned quickly form its mistakes and nine months later, they have proudly announced the 3008WFP.

The update to the 3007WFP is announced to feature 2560x1600, 1920x1200, 1920x1080, 1680x1050 standard resolutions and improved input options, such as DisplayPort, HDMI, Component, S-VHS, Composite and USB upstream connector (for 4-port USB hub and 9-in-2 card reader).

Dell's new display model sets a new benchmark in the industry. Hardware testers will be able to connect two workstations via the DVI link and another one via the analogue D-SUB connection. HDMI-DVI converters, such as the one shipped by Hiper, would allow the tester connect a fourth testbed, while the DisplayPort link would take care of the connection with a DisplayPort-enabled video card.
