Device reportedly uses a 1.52-inch plastic OLED (P-OLED) display

As 2014 kicks into full gear, a report from Korea claims (or claimed, as was subsequently pulled) that Apple is working with LG Display to create its much-rumored smartwatch.

Generally referred to as the iWatch, this upcoming device is said to be packed with sensors and sports full iOS integration.

It would act as a sidekick to the iPhone and iPad we carry around with us, and promises to beat every other smartwatch in terms of features and, of course, design.

To make one thing clear, this information doesn’t come from Apple, but rather from nosy analysts who are keeping tabs on Apple’s suppliers to try and figure out what the Cupertino giant is up to.

The latest such information comes from Korea, where DDaily was apparently forced to pull a report for giving away (potentially erroneous) information regarding said device.

The paper said the iWatch display would be made by LG. Measuring 1.52 inches on the diagonal, this plastic OLED (P-OLED) display would supposedly be curved, which bodes well with any smartwatch form factor.

There’s more. The report also said the iWatch was entering mass-production in the third (fiscal) quarter of 2014, meaning Apple could be able to have it ready for unveiling in summer, or fall the latest.

Apple is known to have bought technology, staff, and a big factory to churn out sapphire glass, some of which may end up being used as the cover glass (digitizer) for the iWatch. Nothing is yet confirmed, and the sapphire could also be used for future iPhones as well.

In fact, there’s a greater possibility that the sapphire glass is first and foremost meant for the iPhone 6, Apple’s first big-display iPhone which some pundits believe is going to be released this summer.
