By now it's no mystery that “Sin City 2: A Dame to Kill For” is a box office disappointment, despite the fact that it has a star-studded cast, the fact that it's based on a Frank Miller graphic novel, directed by Robert Rodriguez, and that the original movie was a smash.

The movie was expected to rake in $15 million (€11.3 million) but it only managed less than half, coming in a shy $6.5 million (€4.9 million), which put it in the eighth position in the box office over the weekend.

Not even the likes of Jessica Alba, Josh Brolin and Bruce Willis could save the flick and bring in more viewers. The main reasons for this major flop, according to Box Office Prophets, is the fact that the sequel to the 2005 original was delayed so many times and because it didn't have a strong enough promotion campaign.

The first movie made an opening for almost thirty million dollars when it came out in 2005 and it managed to increase that number 5 times in worldwide income. The distributor's representative, Erik Lomis, from Weinsteain Co. said that “Obviously, we're very, very disappointed in the numbers. We definitely did not see it coming in like this.”
