Usually it's games that get inspired from books. Will the opposite work just as good?

Electronic Arts and Del Rey are proud to announce Del Rey's publishing a novel based on the critically-acclaimed Command & Conquer 3 Tiberium Wars PC game, hitting the US and Canada on May 29, 2007. Europe will see it released in the following months. "Command & Conquer remains one of the most popular and well-reviewed gaming franchises," said Del Rey editor Keith Clayton "and we're thrilled to have the opportunity to work on an original story set in EA's Tiberium Universe."

Funny, isn't it? It's games such as Command & Conquer that take after books all the time. Guess it goes the other way around just as good, huh?

Patrick O'Brien, VP of Business Affairs at EA explains why it's important for storylines such as the one in Command & Conquer 3 Tiberium Wars, to see other different forms of media, other than video games: "We're excited to expand the Command & Conquer franchise to a new form of media and offer a depth to the underlying fiction of the game series like never before. Keith DeCandido wrote a great story, and we're pleased to have partnered with him and Del Rey."

In the novel by Keith R. A. DeCandido, the year is 2047 and the stakes are rather high for the Earth. Tiberium (a self-replicating alien substance infecting the Earth) is spreading rapidly. The Global Defense Initiative (a high-tech alliance of the world's most advanced nations) is fighting to contain Tiberium. But the story couldn't have been as simple as Kane; the megalomaniacal leader of the Brotherhood of Nod, has other plans for Earth. Kane's secret society turned superpower is bent on using Tiberium to take control and transform humanity into something twisted like only he would imagine. Then, while hundreds of battles are being fought across the globe, a third alien race emerges; thus an even greater war starts over Tiberium.

What, didn't you think we were going to tell the whole book, did you?

May 10, 2007 is the launch date for Command & Conquer 3 Tiberium Wars on Xbox 360 in case you forgot and if you need more info on the novel (although if you're a gamer I sincerely doubt that you read books) just see the delreybooks official site.
