Deepin 2014 RC, a distribution based on Ubuntu and developed in China, has been released and is now available for download.

The Deepin Linux distribution is aimed at professional and normal users alike, focusing on the best experience possible, and uses its own desktop environment. In fact, it has become increasingly rare to get a custom desktop and most developers choose to implement an existing one.

The first time users access the operating system they notice that this is not your typical experience. The fact that the devs are not European shows in the way they do things, which is a little different from what we are used to.

“Deepin 2014 RC system has been fully optimized with a boot memory of 500M, and the internal prompt mechanism has been improved, which makes Deepin Desktop Environment be more light weight and sensitive.”

“To unify Deepin2014 RC overall style and appearance, we improved Deepin system theme. Meanwhile, a vivid and simple user guide is added, which helps new users to quickly grasp the common operations,” said the devs in the announcement.

One of the most interesting aspects of this distro is the Control Center, which gathers all the settings available in the operating system. A few of the modules, like Display, Network, Bluetooth, and Personalization have been improved.

Users will find it much easier to remove applications from the OS, which is always a good thing to see. In fact, the entire process is now a lot more user-friendly. All a user needs to do is to delete it from the launcher or just drag the icon into the trash. This particular feature is already available in Mac OS.

The developers have also integrated a number of third-party applications, which can be installed from the repositories. These repos are spread across 60 different servers, which means that users will likely find at least one of them to be closer and faster.

Users have been asked to test the new Linux distribution and report the problems found, although, by the looks of it, we might get a final version of Deepin pretty soon.

A complete list of changes, new features, and updates can be found in the official announcement. You can download the Linux Deepin 2014 RC distribution from Softpedia.

Remember that this is a development version and it should NOT be installed on production machines. It is intended for testing purposes only.
