That photo is of a full-size ATX motherboard, not micro-ATX

Usually, we think that a CPU cooler is large when it is at least as wide as half the length of a memory module, or perhaps two thirds. But DeepCool really went overboard when it created the GamerStorm Assassin type-D.

We are more than familiar with overkill technology. But overpowered graphics cards usually stick to the same form factor as the original, sometimes even get thinner because of water cooling.

Also, no matter how much better a CPU is compared to others, it's ultimately still a relatively small chip no bigger than the motherboard socket.

Overall, overpowered technology can be recognized more by the numbers on a spec sheet than by its looks, although RAM and add-in graphics cards do often have fancy coolers.

DeepCool's latest product is the opposite: physically large to such an extent that you're liable to mistake that ATX motherboard in the image gallery for a micro-ATX one.

The DeepCool GamerStorm Assassin type-D

This CPU cooler measures 143 x 158 x 167 mm / 5.62 x 6.22 x 6.57 inches and weighs 1.48 kilograms / 3.26 pounds.

A nickel-plated copper base pulls heat from the CPU and sends it to the two aluminum fin stacks through eight nickel-plated copper heatpipes.

One of the fin stacks has an edge aimed at the back of the PC case, and an asymmetric shape. In fact, the two fin stacks are different from one another as well. This allows for a greater dissipation area, but prevents the use of a third fan.

Then again, even two 120 mm fans are more than enough. The one that pushes air is capable of an airflow of 68.06 CFM, while the other fan has a diameter of 140 mm and can push up to 70.08 CFM of air.

The noise of the 120 mm fan ranges from 17.8 to 27.3 dBA, and the other spinner is the same. This is because the rotary speed is different: 300 to 1,400 RPM and 300 to 1,200 RPM, respectively.

Availability

The new DeepCool GamerStorm Assassin II CPU cooler is compatible with both Intel and AMD processors. Probably even 220W TDP chips like AMD FX-9000, though the product page doesn't mention it specifically. It does specify FX 8/6/4-Core though. The price is still unknown.
