Capcom released some new information regarding their upcoming free-to-play PlayStation 4 exclusive dungeon crawler Deep Down, covering weapons and microtransactions.

Spears will be the standard weapons in Deep Down, following the time-proven mechanic of aiming, thrusting and profiting. Targeted attacks will yield different results, for instance a leg hit might throw an enemy off balance and make him fall.

Swords will come in two varieties, sword and board and two-handers. While the protection of a shield offers the opportunity to block and launch a counterattack, the slower two-handed swords will deliver much more damage to several enemies at once.

Players will be able to make use of various separate pieces of protective gear, covering one part of the body each, such as the arms, legs or head, in typical role-playing game fashion. Some of the defensive items will require certain skills in order to be utilized though, and reading inscriptions found on stone statues inside the dungeons will offer information related to a particular time period and its appropriate protective gear.

Deep Down Producer Yoshinori Ono revealed some information regarding microtransactions and future plans, during a Capcom developer interview on their website, stating that although Deep Down is a home console game, its business model follows that of online games.

"When we develop an online game, we aim to create a game that allows people already playing it to continue enjoying it. At the same time, we try to avoid boosting the number of players just for the sake of getting new people to play.

"The game Deep Down is provided free of charge, but players are required to pay for additional items and other game content. To ensure people playing the game don't lose interest, we will keep working to deliver stable long-term services," he informed.

Deep Down will have a microtransaction system which players will be able to use in order to purchase additional items for use in their adventures, and Capcom intends to offer DLC in order to expand their games in the future, instead of packaged versions of expansions, like they used to.

"We hope to provide a large variety of content at reasonable prices that is in line with what people like. The important is not viewing DLC as a form of added value, but as a system that we're supposed to have," Yoshinori Ono concluded.

Deep Down is expected to be out for the PlayStation 4 some time this year.
