14 DAY TRIAL // Team Ninja has announced that their free-to-play fighting game Dead or Alive 5 Ultimate: Core Fighters has registered over a million downloads worldwide since it was released on the PlayStation Network.
Dead or Alive 5 Ultimate was launched last year in September for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 platforms worldwide, and it has also been introduced to Japanese arcades in December. The game is an expanded edition of the original 2012 Dead or Alive 5 that adds some characters and features as well as a couple of tweaks, most of them related to online multiplayer gameplay.
In order to celebrate the 1 million downloads milestone, Team Ninja is offering the Core Fighter and Jann Lee bundles to their fans for free for three whole weeks, starting March 12, 2014.
The developers have also announced that a new cast member will be made available for purchase on March 25, Marie Rose. On the same day, the fan favorite Lorelei stage will also be made up for grabs for free.
The new content will also be available via the Microsoft Games Store for the Xbox 360 version of the video game, starting March 26.
The Jann Lee Pack will introduce the renowned Jeet Kune Do master who first appeared in the original Dead or Alive game to the character roster. Jann Lee studied martial arts as a child by watching Bruce Lee movies, before becoming a bouncer and getting to practice them live. Also known as The Dragon and A Scorching Soul, Jann Lee continues training with relentless determination, bent on realizing his dream of becoming the greatest fighter of all time, which will be realized by taking part in the Dead or Alive tournament.
Marie Rose is an 18-year-old fighter who was previously present only in the Dead or Alive 5 Ultimate arcade edition released in Japan. The new character will be going for $8 / €6 and will also have several costumes to go with it for $3 / €2 each. A value costume set and a value character and costume set will also be made available when the brawler gets introduced at the end of March.
The Lorelei stage is a fan favorite multi-level fighting stage set on the banks of the river Rhine, originally making its debut in Dead or Alive: Dimensions.
Players can access Dead or Alive 5 Ultimate: Core Fighters free of charge via the PlayStation Network, the free version coming with four iconic characters from the series, in the form of Ayane, Hayate, Kasumi and Ryu Hayabusa, with almost all core game modes available.
