Shortly after the first Dead Space video game was launched, Electronic Arts revealed that it was trying to also get a movie project based on the franchise off the ground, as part of a strategy to cross promote the new intellectual property as much as possible.

Since then gamers got a new title, Dead Space 2, that significantly improved the experience offered by the series, but almost no information about the movie project was offered.

Now D.J. Caruso, who at the moment is the director working on the project, has talked about the Dead Space movie as he was promoting his recent release I Am Number Four, saying, “We're working on the story. Actually it's from the producers of Twilight, Wyck Godfrey is one of the guys who put it together."

He added, “We had one attempt of trying to do a prequel that the story didn't quite work out as well as we wanted it to. But if we can capture how... I don't want to say, I guess, scary or how horrifying it could be to play that game because it's really, really, really fantastic. It'd be fun to make that into a movie.”

D.J. Caruso has worked on such movies as Disturbia, Eagle Eye and Two for the Money.

He seems to actually be a gamer, saying that Dead Space is one of the scariest games that he has ever played, which is one of the reasons he is interested in translating the experience to the movie screen.

Frank Gibeau, who is the president of the EA Games label, has compared Dead Space with Resident Evil, saying that the video game franchise benefited significantly from its association with the movie series.

The success of Dead Space 2 means that the Visceral Studio at Electronic Arts is probably already in the initial stages of developing a new game, which might arrive before the movie does.
