Dead Space 2, the action-packed third-person shooter from developer Visceral and publisher Electronic Arts, has managed to retain its number one position in the United Kingdom video game chart, fending off a determined challenge from FIFA 11, coming from the same company but a different division.

FIFA 11 was in third place during the previous week, but it has seen a one-place ascent as the January transfer window closed with the spectacular move from Liverpool to Chelsea and the Premier League got even more exciting.

Third place in the chart went to Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, the open world game from Ubisoft, which also managed to gain one place coming from fourth.

There now lies Call of Duty: Black Ops, the first-person shooter and best sold game of 2010 from Treyarch and Activision, having failed to get a huge boost from the launch of the First Strike map package.

With big releases like Bulletstorm and Homefront coming up, we might just see Call of Duty exit the top ten altogether in the coming month.

Little Big Planet 2 from Media Molecule and Sony has seen a three places drop to reach fifth in the United Kingdom chart while Just Dance 2 from Ubisoft seems to be glued to sixth.

Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit, the racing game from Criterion that rebooted the series, remains in gear in seventh place with Art Academy from Nintendo gaining one place to reach eight.

The Sims 3, the life simulation game from Electronic Arts, has managed to get into the top ten again at nine, coming from thirteen, while Wii Fit Plus closes down the first ten place of the United Kingdom chart.

The original Just Dance is now at thirteen coming from ten while Mario vs Donkey Kong: Mini Land Mayhem and Mario Sport Mix are both just outside of the top ten in their launch week.
