Visceral Games, the developer of the recent Dead Space 2 survival horror title, talked about the game and its special multiplayer mode, saying that through its characters, it is unique in the current gaming landscape.

Dead Space 2 was released last week and has been gaining positive reviews left and right, even a 9.5 score in our own review that appeared on Monday.

[admark=1]But while the title impressed a lot of people with its compelling single-player story, the multiplayer one, a first for the series, didn't really gain a lot of praise.

Visceral Games, its developer, is now trying to hype it up, saying that in the current gaming scene, nothing compares to the multiplayer in Dead Space 2.

Talking with CVG, Visceral's Ian Milham discussed about what made the mode unique.

"When we kicked off the idea of a Dead Space multiplayer some people were like 'Wait, what?', because games like Battlefield and Medal of Honor exist and have great multiplayer and Dead Space as a franchise isn't known for that," he said.

"Our mantra was 'Can you play a demon baby in Battlefield?' The answer is no. The ideas we're using are fun and complimentary to the experience you can already have.

"Other games are fine but this is different," he added. "It's the kind of multiplayer that could only exist in a Dead Space type world. So no, I don't think we have any comparables."

Many compared Dead Space 2's multiplayer with the one seen in Valve's zombie shooters Left 4 Dead 1 and 2, as both allowed players to be either survivors (space marines in Dead Space 2) or zombies (necromorphs).

Still, seeing as how Left 4 Dead 2 has been already out for quite some time, Dead Space 2 will definitely cater to those who want to play as evil monsters.

Have you had a chance to experience Dead Space 2's multiplayer or are you still going through the single-player campaign?
