EA has just announced that Dead Space fans will be able to start dismembering aliens right before the winter holidays, as the demo for the upcoming Dead Space 2 will arrive on December 21.

Dead Space 2, in case you don't know, is the follow-up to the original game released back in 2008, and continues the story of space engineer Isaac Clarke, as he battles deadly aliens by cutting off their limbs through a variety of weapons.

The demo will arrive on December 21, for the Xbox 360 across the world and for the PlayStation 3 in North America, while European PS3 owners will be getting their hands on it on December 22.

“The holidays are a great time to enjoy all forms of entertainment, and we can’t wait to give horror and action adventure gamers a taste of what awaits them in Dead Space 2,” said Steve Papoutsis, executive producer of the Dead Space franchise.

“Releasing the demo five weeks before launch will not only re-connect players with our hero Isaac Clarke, but will also give them the opportunity to experience firsthand various jaw-dropping scenarios. It’s gonna be awesome”

The demo will see Isaac discover the Church of Unitology religion and battle his first Necromorphs on The Sprawl space station.

Besides exploring these places, Clarke will have access to the new weapons of the game, including the Javelin gun, updated stasis and telekinesis powers, as well as enjoy the upgraded space suit both in battle and in zero gravity.

Dead Space 2 is being developed by Visceral Games and will be released formally for the PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on January 28, 2011.

The game is set to feature a new single-player campaign that continues the story of Isaac, as well as a brand new multiplayer mode, where players will fight either as soldiers or nercromorphs, in four-versus-four matches.
