"Dead Rising: Watchtower," the movie based on Capcom's popular survival horror franchise, is going to premiere on March 27.

The film will initially be released on Sony's streaming service Crackle and will feature fun, scary and dramatic action. The script was written by Tim Carter, famous for his work on Sleeping Dogs, and there are other stars involved with its making.

The movie's director, Zach Lipovsky, described the entire affair as a kind of Indiana Jones movie with zombies.

"Dead Rising: Watchtower" is based on the famous Dead Rising video game series, featuring over-the-top action and a lot of humor.

The film will be set during a zombie outbreak, after the government-issued vaccine fails to stop the rampant infection affecting mankind.

The franchise is slowly growing

Among the film's stars are Jesse Metcalfe, Dennis Haysbert, Virginia Madsen, Meghan Ory, Keegan Connor Tracy and Rob Riggle.

The movie most likely won't have a cinematic release, but the makers promised to make it available through other digital (as well as physical, eventually) means after its premiere.

The full-length feature movie is produced by Lorenzo di Bonaventura, the man behind the Transformers franchise.

The Dead Rising franchise sold millions of copies worldwide, and the latest entry, Dead Rising 3, has recently broken the shackles of Xbox One exclusivity and landed on Steam for PC.
