Capcom confirms that it's finally going to transition the Dead Rising 2 and Dead Rising 2: Off the Record PC versions from Games for Windows Live to Steam and Steamworks tomorrow, March 17, bringing forth Steam achievements and even trading cards to the two games.

Games for Windows Live was Microsoft's attempt at bringing forth the Xbox Live online service, and its suite of features, to the PC platform, but unfortunately the program caused many different problems. Despite this, quite a few titles still used the service until Valve really solidified its Steamworks suite.

In recent years, more and more older titles that employed GfWL transitioned to Steamworks and, in the process, finally allowed fans to enjoy the games with a much easier service, in the form of Steam.

Dead Rising 2 and Dead Rising 2: Off the Record are also transitioning

Now, Capcom confirms on its website that the next two titles it published many years ago that will transition to Steamworks are Dead Rising 2 and Dead Rising 2: Off the Record.

Tomorrow, March 17, the two games will become available on Steam with full Steamworks integration. This means that those who have titles purchased as Games for Windows Live experiences, or retail editions, will be able to use the key to redeem a free copy via Steam.

The old GfWL editions of the two titles will still be available for play, which is great since those who got the two games from the GfWL store won't be able to get Steamworks editions as they don't have a key to redeem.

A special tool allows for save data and achievements transfer

Capcom confirms that the new versions of the games will get a tool that allows existing players to transfer their save data and achievements from GfWL to Steam. This is optional, however, so you don't have to do it, and the system is still being tweaked, so it's going to arrive after tomorrow. Unfortunately, DLC migration isn't available so the content purchased from GfWL can only be experienced in the GfWL versions of the two games.

Dead Rising 2 and Dead Rising 2: Off the Record on Steamworks will come with trading cards, achievements, leaderboards, and even cloud save functionality.
