Dead Island, the Deep Silver publisher and Techland created zombie action game, has managed to take over the number one position in the United Kingdom video game chart during its first week on sale, ending the two week reign of Deus Ex: Human Revolution.

Dead Island is a surprise hit, one which stirred interest with a very well produced trailer early on that has managed to actually deliver both in terms of mechanics and atmosphere.

Second place in the United Kingdom chart has been conquered by Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine, the third person shooter created by developer Relic and published by THQ, which is also a new release.

Driver: San Francisco, the Ubisoft published driving video game that allows the player to actually jump from one driver to another, has managed to only slide down one place to third place.

Another new entry in the chart, Resistance 3 from Sony, which is only available on the PlayStation 3 home console, has managed to take over fourth place while Deus Ex: Human Revolution, the mix between action and stealth from Eidos Montreal and Square Enix, has gone from occupying the top spot to languishing in fourth.

Despite the slate of new launches that are popping up in the chart Zumba Fitness from 505 Games has managed to still occupy sixth place in the United Kingdom, coming from third, and the publisher is also holding seventh place with Rugby World Cup 2011, which benefits from the popularity of the competition that is currently taking place in New Zealand.

LEGO Pirates of the Caribbean from Disney Interactive Studios is in eight place, coming from fifth, while Star Fox 64 3D from Nintendo for the 3DS handheld has managed to come in at number nine.

The top ten is closed down by the Platinum Edition of Gran Turismo 5.
