14 DAY TRIAL // Dead Island: Game of the Year Edition is now available for download at the Mac Game Store. Virtual Programming ported the game to the Mac allowing OS X gamers to experience life on a tropical island overrun by zombies.
The title offers first-person melee combat, 4-player coop, weapon customization, and is set on a gorgeous tropical island. It combines open world gameplay with RPG elements (mainly for character development) and zombies as far as the eye can see.
“The player is drawn into the world of Dead Island on the brink of a mysterious epidemic that suddenly, and without warning, breaks out on the fictional island of Banoi,” reads the game’s plot.
“As a guest of the Royal Palms Resort, the player's stay was supposed to be a dream holiday; a luxurious getaway to the beautiful beaches of a tropical paradise. But faced with the reality of a zombie apocalypse, there is only one thing left to do: Survive. This is Dead Island... a paradise to die for.”
Dead Island GOTY allows players to experience the full story behind the Banoi Zombie Outbreak, including the original Dead Island story and missions, the Bloodbath Arena DLC, Ryder White DLC, and the blueprint for “The Ripper” weapon.
“This new edition gives players who are yet to experience the mega hit Dead Island a version packed with content: including the Bloodbath Arena mode, the Ryder White story line and the weapon blueprint for The Ripper. This complete Dead Island package includes all the gripping extra content that was previously only available digitally,” says Deep Silver.
The Ryder White DLC allows players to see what happened on Banoi through the eyes of the antagonist. This means you get to learn the full backstory of military man Ryder White. This includes a single-player campaign with several hours of gameplay, 2 new weapons/blueprints, and new in-game cutscenes.
Bloodbath Arena offers new challenges for single-player and co-op fans in “a desperate fight for survival where waves after waves of unrelenting zombies attack, one more gruesome than the next.” Campaign mode can benefit from loot experience points garnered in this DLC, which includes 4 arenas.
Requirements are Mac OS X 10.8 (Mountain Lion) or later, a 2.7 Ghz dual-core Intel Mac, 8 GB of RAM, 512 MB of video RAM, and a Steam account (with Steam installed, obviously). The game is currently available for purchase at the Mac Game Store for $19.99 (€14.58).
