Video game developer Yager and publisher Deep Silver are announcing that they are delaying the launch of Dead Island 2 to 2016 in order to have more time to polish all the core features of the game and deliver the quality that players are expecting from the title.

The official announcement explains that the two companies have listened to the feedback coming from the fans and want to make sure that all their desires are catered to, from multiple different characters to cooperative play and cool zombie killing moves.

Initially, the game was set to be introduced in the spring of this year, and the interval was then enlarged to cover all of 2015.

Dead Island 2 is set to be offered on the PC, the Xbox One from Microsoft, and the PlayStation 4 from Sony.

The announcement adds, "We have been looking at the game long and hard, and we have decided we didn’t reach that goal we set out to achieve quite yet. This is why we have decided to delay Dead Island 2 to 2016. Right now, we are focusing purely on development, and we will have more info to share at a later stage."

The two companies are not saying whether they are planning to eliminate any of the originally announced features in order to make sure that the game ships on time.

There is also no information on whether the public will be able to offer feedback before launch, using a beta period.

Dead Island 2 aims to expand on the zombie killing formula of the original

The first title in the series managed to introduce some very fun combat moments, but there were plenty of instances when it also felt repetitive and ponderous.

Yager has said that it wants to take the zombie killing concept to the mainland of California in order to introduce more variety and more ways for the player to use the environment to their advantage.

Dead Island 2 will take place in Los Angeles, San Francisco, and another not yet revealed location.

The development team has also talked about the undead, which will be easier to take out but also pose more of a threat when going on the offense, challenging gamers to come up with new ways to destroy them.
