Relic is announcing that it has just launched the 1.2.1 patch for its most recent release, Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War II. There are quite a few changes coming in the package, which will be automatically applied to the videogame when you log into your Steam account.

But the star of the 1.2.1 patch is the addition of a new map, called “Tiber Outpost,” which is designed for six player matches, and marks the first fresh map that Dawn of War II has received since launch.

The general changes are aimed at making the game easier to enjoy. Relic is saying that, at last, Achievements will be correctly awarded after certain missions and at the end of the single player campaign, retroactively for those who have already completed it.

The multiplayer component, which is heavily reliant on Microsoft's Games for Windows service, has also been worked on, in order to make better use of the TrueSkill system so that better players are no longer paired up with people who are just getting into multiplayer. In an effort to make sure that future patches catch all remaining bugs, Relic has also introduced a new version of its bug reporting tool.

The rest of the changes in the 1.2.1 patch for Dawn of War II are oriented towards Player versus Player battles. The big news is that the Population Cap issues that affected the Space Marines is now solved, with a better system than the temporary one introduced in patch 1.1.3.

Shields have also lost the ability to recharge while being active, making units using them a bit more vulnerable while some Tyranid units, like the Warrior, the Zoanthrope and the Carnifex, have had their power reduced or their costs increased to better balance the game. The Warp Spider Eldar units are now more effective.
