If the developer is right

Is Dawn of War II, the Relic developed and THQ published sequel one of the best designed strategy titles of the last years, just getting better and better? Just a few days ago, Relic announced that it finished the development work on Space Marine early, so the release date was pushed from February 26 to February 19 (in North America; the European date remains unchanged). Before that, Relic said that the game was designed to be easily patched so that new content could be added quickly and without any hassle.

Recently, Mark Noseworthy, who is a producer on the title at Relic, revealed, as part of a Questions & Answers session with the community, that he believed that in the “first few weeks” after the release of the game, the first piece of downloadable content might arrive. He also talked about “extensive post-launch support” and announced avid fans that Relic already had a day zero update based on the feedback from play testers and the multiplayer beta, which would arrive on the day the game is released to the public.

He pointed out that Relic was very interested in offering “several types of free and premium downloadable content through their Games for Windows - Live Marketplace.” On the one hand, this is good because it guarantees a life for Dawn of War II after players get bored with the single player campaign. On the other hand, the mention of premium content means that Relic will release some DLC content for free, while other releases will be paid for.

It will be nice to see what they contain and how much they will cost. But until then, let's hope that Relic manages to create a game that does justice to the Warhammer 40,000 universe and especially to the threat the Tyranids are.
