Joan Rivers promotes new book on David Letterman, explains why she walked out on CNN interviewer

Joan Rivers denies she walked out of a CNN interview over the weekend as part of some kind of PR stunt meant to attract attention towards her new book, “Diary of a Mad Diva,” but that’s not to say she’s shying away from using it as a means to boost interest in her latest project.

You know what they say, negative media attention is always better than no media attention at all.

Rivers was on David Letterman last night to talk about the book and, of course, the topic of her walking out on CNN came up. The comedienne explained that she found the interviewer “nasty” and “mean” and totally “negative” towards her, which is why she refused to continue with the chat.

She also denied doing it as a PR stunt and then, out of the blue, started complaining about how she’d been passed over for a Depends commercial. This was Letterman’s cue, who removed his coat and simply walked out when she told him she was “taking a dump” as she was talking to him.

With Letterman out, Rivers proceeded to interviewing herself, asking herself questions about her love life and responding with a joke that I won’t reproduce in writing. You’ll find it in the video embedded below.

This pre-approved sketch should be proof that Rivers didn’t stage the CNN walkout as a PR stunt because this chat with Letterman feels forced and is, to speak the truth, not really as funny as some of her usual jokes.
