The team at BioWare continues to reveal characters that players will be able to recruit into their parties in the upcoming Dragon Age: Inquisition, with the most recent of them being a Tevinter Imperium mage called Dorian who brings an entirely new way of looking at the world to the game.

David Gaider, one of the leading writers at the studio, says in an interview on the official site that he was aiming to offer an entirely new perspective on the world of the title by allowing gamers to engage with such an outsider.

He says that Dorian “comes from a wealthy and influential family, one of many that arrange marriages and raise their children to become perfect mages… yet Dorian has rejected that life. He's seen the corruption to which it leads, and he refuses to play along despite the fact it's made him something of a pariah.”

The developer also suggests that gamers will be able to explore a deep backstory for Dorian and that it’s important for the overall plot of Dragon Age: Inquisition to know what he has seen.

In Dragon Age: Inquisition, gamers will have to carefully construct their party to make sure that they use characters who tend to work well together.

David Gaider says that Dorian can be too smart for his own good, mainly because of his Tevinter education, which can be a problem with his new companions.

On the battlefield, the new character can be a big asset because of his skill and range of abilities.

The game creator adds, “he unleashes his full power when it's needed… and he has plenty of power to unleash, seeing as he comes from a society where mages are trained to use it rather than hide it. This includes powerful elemental spells, as well as spells involving the control of spirit and the dead—things societies outside of Tevinter might turn up their noses at and claim ‘distasteful’.”

Dorian is also gay, which Gaider says has opened up some interesting elements for his backstory and also influences the way he deals with other characters.

Apparently, he will have the best banter with Vivienne, who is a powerful mage herself, and with the Iron Bull, who is a Qunari and who was actively involved in the battle against the Tevinter Imperium.

Dragon Age: Inquisition will be offered on October 7 on the PC, the Xbox One, the PlayStation 4 and current-gen consoles.
