Fox has confirmed plans to bring “The X-Files” back for a 6-episode special event, with production scheduled to start this summer. Series creator and executive producer Chris Carter is back on board, as also are leading stars David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson.

But they’re not the only cast members you should look forward to seeing again, as Duchovny himself revealed the other night during an appearance on David Letterman. See the video below for this segment of the interview.

Assistant Director Walter Skinner and The Cigarette Smoking Man will also be back, “if that means anything,” the actor says smiling. Admittedly, he’s still in shock that so many people had expressed interest in the revival, and acts as if he doesn’t know if this bit of information means anything to them.

“It’s a strange phenomenon that people still want to see those characters,” he says, after laughing that the series has been off the air for an eternity.

“The X-Files” has been off the air for 13 years, with Carter saying in a recent interview that the revival would treat this long hiatus as a continuous, record breaking “commercial break.”

As for Duchovny’s surprise that people still wanted to see more of Special FBI Agents Mulder and Scully, after all these years, he really shouldn’t be so shocked because they never stopped asking for their return.
