David Beckham is as known for his mild manners and charming ways as he’s for his good looks. On the latest Ellen DeGeneres show, he made plenty of use of all three, as he pranked a masseuse.

Since Ellen is always looking to have a good laugh either with the help of her celebrity guests or at their expense, it’s no wonder she convinced David to play along.

The result, though, is downright hilarious, as Beckham walks in on a masseuse who doesn’t even know her client would turn out to be such a huge star – and an even bigger diva.

Equipped with a feed in his ear, through which Ellen feeds him the lines (but he also does some improv on his own), David literally torments the woman with his diva demands.

First, as the video below will confirm, he asks her to refer to him as Ricky because, he explains, he doesn’t want to feel or be treated like a celebrity, just this once. Yet this is precisely what he does.

After he urges her to do some humming and cleansing breaths (with hilarity ensuing as David rather moans than hums), the football star takes off his shirt – but only because Ellen tells him so, of course.

He then proceeds to tell the masseuse that he has this thing like a “thumb phobia,” which means the woman must give him a massage using her index fingers only. Since he’s Beckham, clearly, she agrees.

In the same video, members of the audience also hear Beckham complaining about how hard it is at times to be pretty, and how he’s often told by people that he has a skin like a baby, again, at Ellen’s precise indications.

He then orders the masseuse to try a different type of therapy for his back, one that has her humming “Happy Birthday (dear Ricky)” near the muscle she touches.

Oddly enough, she complies with this demand as well, even though David is “singing” / yelling loud enough to raise the dead. Only when she tries to convince him that there’s no Cheetos smell in the room is she told she’d been pranked.

One of the funniest things about the Beckham bit on Ellen is that, not for a second, does David step out of character. He doesn’t giggle or laugh – he doesn’t even smile as he makes his ridiculous demands, even if Ellen is cracking up on the other side.
