Mythic Entertainment, together with Electronic Arts and The Black Library, which is a division of Games Workshop, say that they plan to release a new novel related to Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning. The book will be called Dark Storm Gathering and is set to arrive sometime in the spring of 2009. It's the second novel related to the game which will be launched, after Empire in Chaos.

The novel will be written by Chris Wraight and will go deep into the lore of the game and of its universe in order to tell a gripping story of warfare, betrayal and sacrifice. Human and Elf protagonists will be forced to become allies, then join the mighty armies of the Empire to fight against the forces of Tchar’zanek, one of the most dreaded Champions of the powers of Chaos.

The action will be set against the backdrop of the falling Empire of Man, which is besieged by Chaos and the Dark Elves. The novel will use characters drawn from in game classes. There will be an Archmage, a White Lion, a Witch Hunter and a Knight of the Blazing Sun who need to put aside their differences and make sure humanity holds the line against the forces of evil.

Mark Jacobs, the general manager of Mythic Entertainment, stated that “The first novel based on our game, Empire in Chaos, was a tremendous success, and we’re thrilled about next year’s release of Dark Storm Gathering. Black Library has a track record of producing compelling creative works based on the Warhammer world, and they really made the Age of Reckoning shine with the first WAR novel. We can’t wait for players to read what Chris Wraight has in store for them in the second installment in the series”.

Facing strong competition from the recently launched Wrath of the Lich King expansion for World of Warcraft, Warhammer Online could gain new players from tie in novels, which is probably what the people at Mythic believe.
