Developer From Software says that it currently has no plans to launch its upcoming Dark Souls 2 on the Xbox One from Microsoft and the PlayStation 4 from Sony because it has more untapped power left to use on current-gen devices.

Takeshi Miyazoe, a producer working on the title, explains to VG247 that Dark Souls 2 can deliver a very good experience on the hardware that the team already knows how to work with.

He states, “We feel that with PS3 and Xbox 360 there’s a lot of potential we weren’t able to cover for the first Dark Souls, so we want to really capitalise on every aspect of current-gen consoles and get the game to players as soon as possible.”

His statement might mean that depending on how the game is received, From Software and publisher Namco might re-evaluate the possibility of a next-gen console launch.

The developers are also aiming to make sure that the PC version of Dark Souls 2 is optimized for the platform and its unique capabilities.

He adds, “As you know, the PC version last time was more of a port from console to PC. For Dark Souls 2 we are keeping PC in mind right from the beginning, so the release of the PC version will be a ‘PC Dark Souls 2′, rather than a port of the console builds.”

The new game is designed to expand the world that players already know and make the overall experience more accessible, which does not entail a drop in the overall difficulty level or dumbed down mechanics.

From Software also wants to introduce more story elements and make sure that fans get plenty of background for their actions and a number of unique bosses to deal with.

Dark Souls 2 will be launched on March 14 of next year.
