When Ubisoft acquired the copyrights for the Might and Magic franchise, whose faith was uncertain after 3DO went bankrupt, the company promised that it will develop even more the fantastic world of this universe and that it will come up with new games.

Heroes of Might and Magic V has been already announced for 2006, with the first beta scheduled for this year's fall, and a few months ago, when Ubisoft announced the games for the 2005 - 2006 season, they also mentioned a new game inspired from the Might and Magic series .

Yesterday, Ubisoft unraveled the mystery by announcing that the game in question is Dark Messiah of Might & Magic and that it will be launched for PC in the summer of 2006. The interesting part is that Ubisoft has decided to use for this game an improved version of the Half Life 2 engine.

The development of this game has been entrusted to the French studio Arkane Studios, which has also released in 2002 Arx Fatalis, a title based on the Ultima Undeworld universe.

Ubisoft also promised that it will reveal details of Dark Messiah of Might & Magic at the Games Convention event which will take place in Leipzig in 2005.

Ubisoft said that the game will be the first fantasy action game with a complete first person combat system and that it will benefit from all the advantages offered by the Half Life 2's Source engine.

In 2001, 3DO tried this with a similar game, called Legend Of Might and Magic, but the title was not well received by the gaming community.
