Police in Massachusetts have closed down all the schools in the small town of Danvers pending the preliminary results of a murder investigation.

24-year-old teacher Colleen Ritzer went missing on Tuesday and her body was recovered in a wooded area.

"It's just terrifying. [...] Nothing like this ever happens in Danvers," Danvers High senior Kendall Meehan describes.

A 14-year-old boy has been arrested in the Danvers High math teacher's murder case, District Attorney Jonathan Blodgett tells the Boston Herald.

He had been reported missing at the same time as Ritzer. He was found today at 12:30 a.m. today in Topsfield, walking north on the southbound side of Route 1.

"If every family had a daughter like Colleen Ritzer, it would be a wonderful world. She always wanted to teach math. Her mother, I believe, is probably a math whiz.

"She was a quiet, pleasant girl with many friends. She was just like the ideal daughter. She is. This family is a family of America,.They are the ideal family, they are friendly, they are loving, close," neighbor Mary Duffy recalls.

The suspect, whose name has not been disclosed, has been arraigned in Salem District Court today. He may be tried as an adult, but the prosecution is still conducting an inquiry into the matter.

"[We will] take a very hard look at that. Obviously," the District Attorney adds.

The teacher was very active on social media, posting to support her students during the Boston marathon bombing.

"This world is a crazy place. Love who you love and live every day. Thoughts and prayers to those affected at the Boston Marathon," she wrote.

She last submitted a post on Twitter on Monday, when she discussed geometry homework.

"Math teacher often too excited about the topics I'm teaching," she noted.
