What's the catch?

There's quite a frenzy related to high-definition recording going on right now, and that's the reason why just about every important camcorder manufacturer out there is trying to capitalize on this trend. And one of the most eyebrow-raising announcements regarding an HD camcorder comes from US-based company DXG, which has just announced the release of the DXG-595V model, capable of recording videos in full HD resolution while at the same time retailing for an extremely low price, of just 200 US dollars.

According to the company's statement, the device can record clips at a 1920 x1080 pixel resolution at 30 frames per second (PFS). The DXG-595V also offers users a 5X optical zoom, and is capable of taking 8 MP photos. As for recording media, the camcorder is compatible with SDHC cards with capacities of up to 8 GB (probably higher too, but that's the value provided by the manufacturer), which can hold a total of 8 hours of HD video.

Moreover, the DXG-595V has been equipped with a three-inch TFT screen and is delivered together with all the cables required to connect the unit to a laptop or computer via USB 2.0, or to a TV through S-video or composite cables.

"When searching for the perfect camcorder, people list great quality video, ease-of-use and value for their money as the most important factors," said Paul Goldberg, senior vice president of sales and marketing at DXG USA. "The DXG-595V gives consumers real 1080p HD quality video, plus an 8-megapixel still camera, compact size and sleek look and everything they need to shoot, edit, review and share their most memorable experiences. It's the ultimate package for a fraction of what they're used to spending on a high-end camcorder."

While Mr. Goldberg does have a point (at least as far as the price is concerned), you should take the DXG-595V with a pretty big boulder of salt. After all, 200 bucks for pristine videos in high definition is simply too good to be true, isn't it?
